Before you fly: the eVOA and your paperwork
Most visitors to Bali need a Visa on Arrival, and in 2026 the smoothest way to handle it is the electronic version, the eVOA, applied for online a few days before departure. The one genuine nuisance at DPS is not danger — Bali is very safe — but the friendly chorus of “Taxi? Transport, boss?” that greets you in the arrivals hall. These freelance touts often quote double or triple the fair fare, may not use a meter, and occasionally claim your “booked” hotel car has cancelled to redirect you to their vehicle. - If you have a pre-booked driver, walk past the crowd and look for the line of name-boards; yours will be there. Do not accept help from anyone whose board does not show your name.
- Never agree to a price shouted at you in the hall. Use the official counter or an app instead.
