Tanjung Benoa is the strip of beach immediately north of Nusa Dua where, in the 1990s, a Bali entrepreneur realized the calm sheltered bay was perfect for parasailing and jet ski. Three decades later it's the most regulated water sports zone in Bali — operators are licensed, life jackets are mandatory, and the bay's calm waters keep things safer than open-ocean spots.
This guide is from years of taking Villa Soleil guests there and getting feedback. Prices in IDR (Indonesian Rupiah; 15,000 IDR ≈ $1 USD as of 2026). Activities described in the order most guests do them — start with banana boat (warm-up), then parasailing (signature), then jet ski (intense), then flyboard if energy remains.
Tanjung Benoa offers about 10 distinct water sports activities, but five make up 90% of bookings:
| Activity | Duration | Price (2026) | Min age | Thrill level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Parasailing | 15-20 min | IDR 250-350k | 6 (with parent) | Medium |
| Jet Ski | 15-30 min | IDR 350-500k | 12 (driving), 6 (passenger) | High |
| Banana Boat | 10-15 min | IDR 150-200k/person | 6 | Low-Medium |
| Flyboard | 15-20 min | IDR 600-900k | 14+ | Very High |
| Snorkeling trip | 2-3 hours | IDR 300-450k | 8+ | Low |
Most travelers do 3-4 activities. Operators offer package deals at 20-30% savings. Standard "fun pack" (banana boat + parasailing + jet ski) runs IDR 750-900k per person — vs IDR 1.05-1.2M if booked separately. The "extreme pack" adds flyboard at IDR 1.4-1.6M total.
If you only do one Tanjung Benoa activity, make it parasailing. Speedboat pulls a parachute attached via harness — you're lifted 50-80m above the water, tethered, for a 15-minute flight. Views back over Nusa Dua peninsula and toward the airport are spectacular.
Solo (one harness): more sensation, IDR 350k. Tandem (two harnesses side-by-side): safer feeling for nervous flyers, IDR 250-300k per person. Tandem is recommended for kids 6-12 with a parent.
Tanjung Benoa jet skis are 110-160 HP. Standard rentals come with a guide riding their own jet ski alongside you for 15-30 minutes. The bay route covers about 5 km of coastline with a few high-speed straight-line sections.
Solo drive: IDR 400-500k for 15 min, requires you can swim and you sign a brief liability form. Passenger: same price, you sit behind a guide. Couples often have one driver + one passenger rotating roles.
Banana boat is an inflatable shaped like a banana, towed at moderate speed. 4-5 riders sit single-file, holding handles, while a speedboat pulls them in lazy curves. Halfway through, the driver hits a wave and everyone gets tossed off — laughter, screams, get back on, continue. Total ride 10-15 minutes.
Donut boat is the same idea but circular and spins more. Both run IDR 150-200k per person. Best for families with kids 6+ who can swim. Wear secure swimwear — sliding off into water can pull off loose tops.
Flyboard straps your feet to a board connected by hose to a jet ski. Water pressure from the jet ski engine fires from the board, lifting you 5-10 meters above the water surface. Imagine Iron Man feet but with constant balance correction.
This is the most physically demanding activity. Requires:
Most people don't fully "fly" — they hover-fall-hover-fall. Going beyond requires more sessions. Pro photographers can take your photos from boat for IDR 200-300k extra.
For travelers who want water but not adrenaline, the snorkeling boat trip to Tanjung Benoa reef (or Tanjung Mas closer-in) takes 2-3 hours. Boat departs Tanjung Benoa beach 09:00 or 13:00, motors 20 minutes out to a snorkeling spot, anchors, snorkel 60-90 minutes with mask and fins provided. Lunch optional at floating snack boats.
Marine life is moderate — tropical fish, occasional turtle, coral. Better snorkeling exists further afield (Menjangan Island, Nusa Lembongan) but those are full-day trips. Tanjung Benoa snorkel works as a 3-hour add-on after morning water sports.
| Time | Activity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 08:30 | Depart villa | 10-min drive from Nusa Dua |
| 09:00 | Arrive, brief operator | Sign waivers, store bags |
| 09:15 | Banana boat | Warm-up, group laughs |
| 09:45 | Parasailing | Peak experience while energy is fresh |
| 10:30 | Jet ski | High-speed close to bay |
| 11:15 | Snack break | Beach warung, fresh coconut |
| 11:45 | Flyboard (optional) | Skip if budget or strength low |
| 12:30 | Rinse + return to villa | Showers at operator, change clothes |
Villa guests typically leave valuables in the in-villa safe and bring only what's needed for the morning.
The peninsula has about 15 operators. The big three (Bali Marine Sports, Bali Slingshot, Wake Bali Adventure) handle 70% of tourist volume and have the best safety records. Smaller operators are often cheaper but inspect equipment more carefully.
Book via your villa or hotel. At Villa Soleil we send guests to a trusted operator with package-rate pricing — saves 20-30% vs walk-in tourist rates and ensures reputable equipment.
