5-Day Bali Itinerary from Nusa Dua: A Family-Friendly Plan

The plan in one line
Base in Nusa Dua all 5 nights. Day 1 arrival + villa. Day 2 Pandawa Beach. Day 3 Uluwatu sunset + Kecak. Day 4 Ubud day-trip OR slow spa day. Day 5 slow morning + flight home. No moving hotels. No wasted travel hours. Two beaches, one cliff temple, one optional jungle day, three pool afternoons.
Most 5-day Bali itineraries on the internet send you to Seminyak for 2 nights, then Ubud for 2 nights, then back to the airport. They look efficient on paper. In practice, you'll spend 8 hours of your trip in traffic and check-in queues. You'll arrive at each new hotel exhausted, eat at the nearest restaurant because you're tired, and leave the next morning before you've settled.
Our advice: pick one base and stay there. For 5 days, Nusa Dua is the most central. It's 12 minutes from the airport (saves you a half-day on either end), 30 minutes from Uluwatu, 75 minutes from Ubud. You can day-trip to almost anywhere worth visiting, and come home to a pool every evening.
Day 1 — Arrival & settle in
— Day One
The 12-minute trip starts now
~12:00
Land at Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS). Grab a Telkomsel SIM, withdraw IDR 1M, walk to arrivals.
~13:00
Pre-arranged driver from the villa meets you. 12-minute drive to Villa Soleil.
14:00
Check in. Standard time, but if you land early we hold luggage. Welcome drink, walk through the suites.
15:00
Pool. Light lunch in villa — we can arrange or order in.
17:30
Easy sunset from the pool deck.
19:00
Walk to dinner at Bali Collection (8 min). Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, whatever fits the mood.
21:00
Early sleep. You just flew. Tomorrow is the beach.
Tip: Don't try to do anything ambitious on Day 1. Most travelers underestimate the jet lag from 8+ hour flights. The pool is enough.
Day 2 — Beach day
— Day Two
Pandawa Beach (or Geger if you prefer quieter)
08:00
Slow breakfast at the villa. Fresh fruit, banana pancakes, strong coffee.
10:00
Drive 15 min to Pandawa Beach. Park, walk down to the sand.
10:30
Settle in under a thatched umbrella. The east end is quieter and has better lunch warungs.
12:30
Lunch on the beach — grilled fish, nasi campur, fresh coconut. IDR 50–100k per person.
14:00
Swim. The reef breaks the waves; safe for kids. Pandawa is calmer than most Bali beaches.
16:00
Drive back to villa. Quick shower, second pool session.
19:30
Dinner in the villa — many guests cook one night during their stay. Or order from a local catering service we recommend.
If with toddlers: Swap Pandawa for Geger Beach (10 min) — quieter, fewer vendors, natural rock pool at low tide.
Day 3 — Uluwatu sunset & the Kecak fire dance
— Day Three
The night Bali becomes the postcard
09:00
Slow morning. Late breakfast. Recover legs from Day 2.
12:00
Light lunch at the villa or at Bumbu Bali in Bali Collection.
14:00
Quick pool nap. You'll be out late tonight.
16:00
Drive to Uluwatu Temple (30 min). Bring a sarong (or rent at the entrance). Watch the monkeys — they steal phones, sunglasses, hats. Genuinely.
17:00
Walk the cliff path. Photograph everything. The lighting from 17:00 onward is unbeatable.
18:00
Kecak fire dance begins. ~70 men chanting, fire, the Ramayana acted out on a cliff stage as the sun drops. Touristic, and also genuinely good.
19:30
Dance ends, sun gone. Drive 15 min to Single Fin or Padang Padang for a late dinner with the surfer crowd.
22:00
Back to villa. This was the big day.
Crucial: Arrive Uluwatu by 17:00 to secure seats with the cliff view. By 17:30 those seats are gone. Book Kecak tickets at the entrance (no advance booking needed).
Day 4 — Ubud day-trip OR slow spa day
Option A — Ubud day-trip (active)
— Day Four / Option A
One day in central Bali
07:30
Early breakfast. Pack swimsuits, water, sunscreen.
08:30
Driver picks you up. 75-min drive to Ubud through south Bali sprawl, then rice fields.
10:00
Tegalalang Rice Terraces. 1 hour. Photograph, walk down to the cafes for coffee.
11:30
Drive 15 min to Ubud Monkey Forest. Take off jewelry; the monkeys really do steal.
13:00
Lunch at Locavore To Go or Hujan Locale. Modern Indonesian.
14:30
Wander Ubud center. Pasar Seni (art market) for handmade. Yoga studios. Spice shops.
16:00
Start drive home. Time it so you're past Denpasar before rush hour.
18:00
Back at villa. Pool, light dinner.
Honest note: Ubud is its own trip. One day captures the highlights but undersells it. If you'd consider 2 nights there instead, that's a different itinerary.
Option B — Slow day (recovery)
— Day Four / Option B
The day you came to Bali for
09:00
No alarm. Breakfast on the terrace.
10:30
In-villa massage. We arrange Balinese therapists who come to the villa. Two hours, IDR 350–500k per person.
13:00
Lazy lunch. Maybe a private chef arrangement for a multi-course Indonesian meal — also arrangeable.
15:00
Quick drive to Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) — 20 min — for the giant statue at golden hour.
17:00
Sunset back at the villa.
19:30
Dinner — try Single Fin in Uluwatu (30 min) for ocean view, or stay close at Soleil restaurant (different from our villa) inside Mulia resort.
Recommendation: With kids under 8, or if your group prioritizes rest, take Option B. Save Ubud for a future trip.
Day 5 — Slow morning & departure
— Day Five
The trip ends slowly
09:00
Long breakfast. Last coffee on the terrace.
10:30
Optional: walk to Geger Beach (10 min) for a last swim, or pack and pool one more time.
12:00
Check out — late check-out usually arrangeable if your flight is afternoon.
13:00
Light lunch.
14:30
Driver picks you up. 12-min drive to airport.
16:00+
Flight out. You leave rested, not exhausted.
For international flights: Allow 90 minutes door-to-gate. International flights leave from Terminal 2, well-signed.
Variants for different travelers
With young kids (2–8 years)
Day 1: Arrive, swim, easy dinner. No deviation.
Day 2: Geger Beach (quieter than Pandawa, natural rock pool).
Day 3: Tanjung Benoa Water Sports in the morning (glass-bottom boat to Turtle Island), Uluwatu Kecak in the evening but plan an early dinner — kids tire after sunset.
Day 4: Option B (slow day with spa, GWK).
Day 5: Standard.
Honeymoon couple
Day 1: Arrival, in-villa dinner with private chef. Romantic but no logistics.
Day 2: Pandawa morning, sunset cocktails at Karma Beach (private cove, requires reservation).
Day 3: Uluwatu Kecak, dinner at El Kabron (Mediterranean clifftop) — book ahead.
Day 4: Spa morning, evening at The Edge Bali for sunset on a glass cliff bar.
Day 5: Standard slow morning.
Surfer couple/friends
Day 1: Arrival, surf check at Sanur if morning landing.
Day 2: Dawn drive to Bingin or Padang Padang. Surf, late breakfast at warung.
Day 3: Uluwatu surf check + Kecak at sunset.
Day 4: Balian or Medewi if intermediate; otherwise Keramas on east coast.
Day 5: Last surf at Nusa Dua reef (catch wind for east-coast wave), then airport.

The basecamp
Every day in this itinerary returns to the same villa. That's the point. You unpack once. You know the kitchen. The kids know which suite is theirs. Mornings start slow because there's no luggage to carry.
Villa Soleil in Nusa Dua is built exactly for this kind of trip — four arched suites, a private pool, an open kitchen, 12 minutes from the airport. Tell us when you're flying in, and we'll have a driver waiting and the rest of these 5 days arrangeable in advance.
